ABOUT THE TRANSLATOR: ROLF FJELDE
Born in New York City of Norwegian ancestry, Rolf Fjelde was
educated at Yale University, including the Yale Drama School,
and at Columbia University. His poetry has been published by many
leading periodicals and in two collections, and his original plays
and Ibsen translations have been staged in England, Norway,
Canada, and throughout the United States. He has edited Ibsen:
A Collection of Critical Essays, and his translations of Ibsen: Four
Major Plays, Volumes I and II, are available in Signet Classic
editions.
